Joy
The word "joy" in Hebrew is chedvah ( H2304, חֶדְוָה).
It "signifies a deep, abiding sense of joy and gladness. It is often used in the context of spiritual or communal joy, reflecting a state of happiness that is rooted in one's relationship with God and the community of believers. This joy is not merely an emotional response but a profound sense of well-being and contentment that comes from divine presence and blessing."
The scriptures teach that this relationship "with" God never means just belief in God but a continual connection to Him by doing all that He asks, at all times (John 9:10).
The continual connection to Him in this way may seem overwhelming, but it is the only means to lasting joy and in turn becomes our great strength:
"Adam fell that men might be, and men are that they might have joy." - 2 Nephi 1:10
"Joy cannot be found by subordinating the spirit to the flesh. Joy, peace, and freedom come only by subordinating the flesh to the spirit." - Teachings and Commandments 159:19
"The joy of the Lord is your strength." - Nehemiah 2:32
